About Ethan

At this point in my life, I’m pretty much always drawing a little guy. Whenever I pick up a pen, it has always been instinct to draw a little set of eyes first. It just feels natural. I’ve always tried to allow my art practice to be fun, natural, and whimsical. And now that I’ve been diving deeper into storytelling with comics, I’m hoping these little guys can be the catalyst to draw someone in and be inspired by the story.

I’m finally at a point in my life where I feel like my art and creative vision are starting to be more central to my day-to-day routines, as well as being able to be a more direct reflection of my values in life. Much of my creative practice used to be just for the fun of it. I think that has a lot to do with just feeling more convicted in my direction and purpose now. For a long time, I never really wanted my creative practice to be my full-time job. In college, I truly didn’t believe it would be feasible with how much debt I was going to be in. It made me afraid of ruining the purity of the practice if I was going to have to try too hard. But now it almost feels necessary.

I was a middle school art teacher for a year after college, but that just didn’t feel like my calling. I had no business having to be any type of authority figure in a school setting. Ever since then, I’ve been screenprinting at a commercial shop for 4 years, and now I’ve been running my own shop for over 4 years. Yarborough Printshop is a solo operation that exists within our shared “Printshop” building in South Minneapolis alongside Kuya Print Co and WIP Mpls. With the printshop, I’ve been doing a balance of commissioned printing and design/illustration work.

Yarborough Printshop

Yarbororugh Printshop is one of the only, or maybe only shop is MN that uses exclusively water-based ink. With wholesale clothing being such an unethical industry, I’m striving to be as ethical as I can be. Whether it’s sourcing only USA-made blanks, or just striving to reduce waste at every step of the print process. I’m hoping to set an example as a slow and intentional anti-capitalist business that’s dedicated to prioritizing our morality over profits and constant growth.
